FORSight Resources announces new versions of its FORSim software
North Charleston, S.C., USA – June 18, 2008 –FORSight Resources, LLC, a leading forestry consulting firm, announced today the release of updated versions of its FORSim software packages: FORSim-PNW (Pacific Northwest) version 2008.5, and FORSim-LPGS (Longleaf Pine) version 2008.5. FORSim provides biometricians and inventory foresters with the functionality of powerful growth and yield models in an easy-to-use, Microsoft Excel-based spreadsheet interface.
FORSim-PNW reduces ORGANON parameter input to simple menu selections. Results are provided in both tabular and graphical format, including trees/acre, quadratic mean DBH, BA/acre, relative density, stand density index, log Dq, and cubic- and board-foot volumes and growth rates. New features in Version 2008.5 include an improved user interface that further simplifies model usage, to the ability to access 3 different versions of the ORGANON growth engine, expanded options for commercial thinning, and log merchandizing that provides board-foot volume output by user-defined products.
FORSim-LPGS provides users with access to FORSight’s own Longleaf Pine Growth Simulator (LPGS). The growth engine provides for alternative thinning treatments and provides a means for quickly analyzing and comparing stand-level cultural treatments through graphical and tabular outputs. LPGS also calculates scores for assessing foraging habitat for the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker (RCW), providing foresters and wildlife managers a powerful tool for developing and assessing treatment regimes in support of RCW recovery. Version 2008.5 now includes the ability to do cash-flow analysis within the model, to help evaluate the economics of alternative silvicultural regimes.
